Traditional healer flyers

This is just a tiny sampling of flyers handed out at traffic lights and on street corners in all cities in South Africa.  They are cheaply printed, often using a technique of rainbow inking and often have bizarre phrasing and sometimes hilarious typos.  They are aimed at the black population who believe in traditional medicine and I am always amused at the reactional of the guys handing out these flyers when a white man eagerly grabs whatever they offer.

Gum wrappers

This is what started my collecting obsession. Brilliant colour, interesting artwork and cheap to buy. Unfortunately they seem to have disappeared off the South African market and I haven't seen any in the shops for some time now.

Pedigree box

I spotted this lovely old box at our local SPCA charity shop. I just had to have it and, bonus, it was actually still full of pen nibs.  What really made this impossible to resist was the fortuitous drop of ink that gives Mr. William Mitchell a rather unfortunate profile.

Cigarette sweets

These were very popular when I was a kid but we are living in more politically correct times now and I think they've been banished from the shelves. Pity, lovely packaging.
